We are a sangha dedicated to practice and teaching in the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition of Eihei Dogen Zenji and Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. We are led by Taigen Dan Leighton, Dharma teacher in the San Francisco Zen Center lineage, as well as Zen scholar and translator. Together we are building a space to offer traditional practice and teaching translated for the challenges of practitioners in contemporary Chicago.
All are welcome.  Practice weekends feature zazen retreats, Dharma talks, and seminars led by Taigen Leighton.
Comments: Taigen Leighton is a Soto Zen teacher, author, Dogen scholar and translator.  His students formed this sitting group in Chicago in July 2003 for the purpose of encouraging zazen and Soto Zen practice. Taigen relocated to Chicago from the Bay Area permanently in January 2007 and currently is our resident teacher.

Chicago Ratna Shri Sangha is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the practice of Tibetan Buddhism as passed down in the Drikung Lineage founded by Lord Jigten Sumgön in the 12th Century. Born in Tibet, Lord Jigten Sumgön (Rinchen Phel or Ratna Shri in Sanskrit) was an emanation of Buddha Shakyamuni and was considered to be one of the greatest disciples of Phagmo Drupa, who named him as his successor. Founded in 1994 by the Venerable Khenchen Konchog Gyaltsen Rinpoche, Chicago Ratna Shri Sangha has sustained itself with regular practice and teachings given by our spiritual director, Drupon Rinchen Dorjee Rinpoche and other precious lamas of the Drikung Kagyu lineage who are invited several times yearly.
